What Does Fairer Fares For Rail Passengers Mean For Climate Change?

Rail bosses have pledged the biggest overhaul of train fares in 30 years in a bid to ensure passengers get the cheapest available price on travel. The shake-up is said will end injustices such as customers being charged more for return journeys than they would be paying single for separate legs of their journeys. Jacqueline Starr, the director of rail delivery group was quoted saying 'We're determined to cut out the red tape, jargon and complication to make it easier for customers to buy fares they can trust including from ticket machines.
What's does all this mean for climate change and how does it help the cause?. it is a well-known fact surface transportation is one of the largest sources of greenhouse emissions The more people that use public transport means fewer drivers and less pollution.

Here's a five facts on how pollution is affecting our day to day lives

Fact 1: Inhaling air pollution takes away at least 1-2 years of a typical human life.
Fact 2: Air pollution is not a recent occurrence. In 1952, the Great Smog of London killed 8000 people.
Fact 3: 80% of lung diseases are caused due to pollution from other cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles.
Fact 4: Electric vehicles produce less air pollutants. They stir up dirt but without producing gases.
Fact 5: A single bus carriess passengers which are likely to drive 40 cars.

The solutions are there but it will take us as a collective for them to be effective. BY making small changes such as using public transport, walking or cycling for short journeys to bigger changes such as switching to using electric cars and more fuel efficient vehicles i believe we can all be a part of the solution to tackle climate change.
